Our buses will arrive at the school at 10am to begin organizing then to send home. If you are able to come get your student at the school, that would be extra helpful. You can access the front pull-through until buses arrive.

Our Turkey Trot was a huge success. Our students raised $4,984 which gets divided into each grade level’s account. The money follows them through the years for things like field trips, 8th grade graduation and their senior trips.
Our top fundraisers for each grade level were Makenzie Williams, Summer Zinsli and Kennedi Kemmer who collectively raised over $1,000. These students each won a $15 gift card to a local store provided by FOOPS, as well as a tasty, holiday themed cookie and the opportunity to turn Mrs. Burke into an messy, human ice cream sundae at December’s Assembly. Honorable Mentions for fundraising also go to Riley Hermanns, and Lucas and Bridget Binion for their outstanding contributions.
During the event, we did random giveaways where ALL students won a fun Turkey themed prize. As a school, our students walked a total of 339 miles during the event which included a walking course that zig-zagged throughout our building and then spaces such as the the playground and the gym where students could pick up the pace and run some laps. Our top trotters for the day were Alexis Marin, Noah Meza, Flynn Orr, Jax Jansma, and Leland Campbell. These student’s enjoyed some extra prizes as well.
A special thank you to all of the FOOPS members who work so hard to support our students and events. They always make sure that we have everything we need. If you are interested in joining their group, please see their Facebook page. Membership is low and they are always needing more parent/community volunteers in order to keep their mission alive and well. Their next meeting is Monday, December 5th.
We also had great volunteers during the event. Thank you to: Harshil Thiry, Emily Darr, Maria Wilson, Michelle Binion, Kristi Basarab, Rachel Samuelson, Jennifer Knox and, our school board member, John Holtermann.
This event wouldn’t have been a success without all of the volunteers and the community support. Thank you for supporting our students and our school.
Reminders: OPE Turkey Trot is tomorrow with a half-day release at 11:30. No school Thursday or Friday. Thanks in advance to our fabulous volunteers that will be helping us to pull off tomorrow’s event.

We have had a fabulous first day here at OPE! Thank you for trusting us with all of your kiddos. It’s been a great start to what I’m sure will be a wonderful year.

-parent drop-off/pick-up is around back
-buses only in the front
-regular days this week until 2:30pm (only LBE has half days)
-no school this Friday or next Monday
-starting next Wednesday (7th) early release is at 1pm and that will take place every Wednesday after that

Ocean Beach Families:
We have been made aware of a TikTok trend pertaining to nationwide school shootings and bomb threats supposedly being planned to take place on Friday, December 17th. There have been no threats against the Ocean Beach School District. Local law enforcement agencies are aware of this nationwide trend and will support us. If you become aware of a specific threat to our district, please report it immediately. If you see something, say something. We will continue to monitor the situation along with law enforcement. Threats to our school or individuals will not be tolerated.
Rumor Control
There are apparently rumors floating around Facebook regarding COVID testing and vaccination. To be clear the school district will do NO testing and/or vaccinating without parent permission.
We are offering COVID testing in order to shorten quarantine periods; however, it is always the parent's choice and parent permission is required each time. The only exception to this is the required rapid testing for athletics. This testing is approved by the parent at the start of the sports season.
As for vaccination, we will send out information for parents who are interested to know when and where they can get their children vaccinated, but we are not in the vaccination business, and we will not be vaccinating students. If we offer a vaccination clinic on a school campus, that, again, would be for parents who are interested and would not be a function of the school district. We would simply be allowing an outside provider such as the health department to vaccinate students that parents bring to the clinic.
As for requiring vaccination for students, we are not in support of this at this time because this vaccination has not gone through the full medical process, and are, in fact, lobbying the governor to not take this step at this time. Chris Reykdal and the state superintendents are in favor of waiting until the medical community does its full review. This vaccination is new, and any process to require it should take time for the medical research to be fully vetted. We are not in support of a vaccination mandate for students until full medical revue occurs.
I hope this helps alleviate some concerns.
