2.9.2023 Update: Congrats to Ciara Reddy, Andrew Gaerlan, and David Sorenson for medaling at the SkillsUSA SW Washington regional competitions on Thursday. Ciara Reddy used the skills she learned in Mr. Blasko’s Commercial Art class to receive the bronze medal in Screen Printing Technology. Andrew Gaerlan, and David Sorenson applied the skills they learned in the Pacific County Fire District 1 Junior Firefighter program in the Firefighting competition. Andrew Gaerlen received the gold medal in the  and will advance to Washington State Leadership and Skills Conference in Tacoma in April. David Sorenson received the silver medal and is waiting for results from other regions to see if he will be joining Andrew at the state conference.

This brings the Ilwaco medal count to 12. Six gold, two silver, and four bronze.

Ilwaco’s carpentry team will compete in the regional Carpentry competition at the Pacific Northwest Carpenters Institute in Portland on Friday. Skyler Saltzman and Julian are still waiting to hear the results of their Computer Science competition. Good luck Ilwaco!


2.8.2023 Update!: Congrats to Jay Schenk, Esther Thomas, and Chloe Star for winning the gold medal Tuesday in the southwest Washington regionals SkillsUSA Crime Scene Investigation. The trio used skills they learned in Ms. Coulings Biomedical Sciences class to process a crime scene. The team had to demonstrate basic crime scene skills such as lifting a fingerprint, swabbing serological evidence, and packaging evidence. Ilwaco’s crime scene investigators will compete in the Washington State Leadership and Skills Conference in Tacoma in April.

Wednesday senior Alex Hilliard will head to Kelso High School to compete in the regional Welding competition. Alex took first regional last year and third in state Thursday Ciara Reddy and Abbie Williams will compete in the Screen Printing Technology contest. Andrew Gaerlan, Gabriel Huff, and David Sorenson will compete in Firefighting on Thursday. Finally Ethan Hopkins, Jacob Gordon, Cooper Petit, and Cooper Petit will compete in Carpentry at the Pacific Northwest Carpenters Institute in Portland on Friday. Good luck Ilwaco!

2.6.2023 Update! - Chloe Stinger received a gold medal in Pin Design and has the opportunity to have her design turned into the official 2023 Washington State pin for the SkillsUSA National Conference in Atlanta, Georgia. The Ilwaco Health Knowledge Bowl team consisting of Miette Choulber, Chloe Stringer, Estrella Medina and Anya Lemon took gold in Health Knowledge Bowl. Finally, Miette Chlouber won the bronze medal in T-Shirt Design.


This week students will be competing in Crime Scene Investigation, Firefighting, Carpentry, Welding, and Screen Printing Technology.

Ilwaco wins six medals in the SW Washington SkillsUSA competitions so far

Congratulations to Adam Caswell, Maxwell Croy, Julian Frazer, Hailey Hightower, Korbyn Tucker, and Jorgon Waters for receiving medals in the SW Washington SkillsUSA Competitions. All six students secured a berth to the SkillsUSA State convention in April. Julian Frazer and Korbyn Tucker received the bronze medal in the Mobile Robotics Technology contest. Maxwell Croy received the gold medal and Jorgon Watters received the bronze medal in Electrical Construction Wiring. Finally, Adam Caswell-Deen brought home the gold medal and Jorgon Watters received the silver medal in Plumbing.

Skyler Saltzman and Julian Frazer have submitted their SkillsUSA Computer Programming projects and are waiting for their results.

This weekend Ilwaco SkillUSA members will travel to Fort Vancouver to compete in First Aid/CPR, Health Knowledge Bowl, Pin Design and T-Shirt Design. Next week students will be competing in Crime Scene Investigation, Firefighting, Carpentry, and Screen Printing.
