    Back-to-School Worries

At this time of year, as a parent, my biggest concerns are "What class will my child be in, and who will be their teacher?" and "what time will my child get picked up and dropped off?". My other biggest concerns are "What does my child need for school supplies?" and "What time does school start and end this year?". I don't have answers to all of these questions, but I can answer when you will know and how you will find out.

Final schedules are being created for students and bus routes are also being created. If you have a change, please contact your child's school next week or the week after, so that can be factored into the route plans.

On August 27th, both Hilltop and Ilwaco High School will be holding registration and picture day events. Your child's schedule can be picked up then. On August 28th, teachers K-5 will begin calling the parents of the students in their classes to introduce themselves for the coming year.

During that same time frame, bus drivers will know their routes and will be contacting parents of the students who will be on their buses.

As for start and end times for the regular school days, Ilwaco High School will be starting at 8:10 and ending at 3:20. Hilltop will be starting at 8:05 and ending at 3:10. Ocean Park will start at 8:15 and end at 2:55. Long Beach will start at 8:00 and end at 2:40. Friday times will be posted on the district and school webpages closer to when school begins.

You should find class supply lists on the school websites and this information was shared with the lovely volunteers who do the Pack-to-School event which is on August 27th at 3:00 at the Peninsula Baptist Church.

Enjoy the rest of your summer!

Serving as the superintendent of the Ocean Beach School District is an honor and a responsibility that I do not take lightly. As a parent of two Ilwaco High School graduates and two current students in the district and as a long-time teacher and resident of the peninsula, I have a deep committment to improving outcomes for the students in our district.

I believe great schools occur only when students, parents, the community, and the staff work together. This requires a willingness to really listen to one another, seek creative solutions, and stay focused on what is beneficial for our kids. As your superintendent, I will model these attributes and foster them within our schools.

I look forward to working with you on our journey towards educational excellence!
